Every bit of it is unaffordable if one is a mere mortal, but there are some amazing examples of mid-to-late 19th century decorative arts being sold this week at Sotheby's London rooms, in a sale titled The Best of British; preceded by a selling exhibition curated by Paul Reeves.  The objects paired with the period drawings and illustrations by Eastlake, Godwin, Talbert, and Pugin are especially fascinating, IMO.

More (and more coherent) info can be had in this  article, and this one.  :-X
Did you notice some of the items were from Jimmy Page's collection.  I wonder if it is silly to jump to the conclusion that we're talking Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page here.

Not silly at all! It is in fact "that" Jimmy Page. A number of other items are from the noted collection of Gary Kemp, actor and former member of the band Spandau Ballet. (Apparently, playing 80s synth rock was a very lucrative profession...)
interesting sale but i tend to be horribly chauvanist/provincial when it comes to antiques, if it aint american, it just aint right, lol. on another note, sotheby's has abandoned the middle market as of jan/08 and no longer accepts consignments on items below $5,000. kinda sad in a way but i guess it was strickly a biz decision. has often picked up "sleeper"  pieces at very good prices at some sotheby sales, but alas, no more. end of an era. to bad.
